UK, PHL police brass share counter-terrorism, anti-crime strategies

Philippine police officials are in the United Kingdom on official mission to attend a series of consultative sessions with UK police counterparts on counter-terrorism and intelligence strategies to tackle terrorism issues and serious crime in communities.

PNP Chief, Director General Alan L Purisima, heads a 3-man PNP delegation to London and Belfast for a series of meetings to learn from the UK experience of adopting a “policing approach that places human rights and community accountability at the heart of policing operations,” and to review the UK experience in managing and responding to domestic and international threats, including the transition to post-conflict policing in Northern Ireland.

The PNP delegation was briefed by officials of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) of London on the operations of the Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) or SO15 under, the counter-terrorism investigative unit of the MPS under Commander Richard Walton; and the Communities Together Strategic Engagement Team (CTSET) of MPS.

The delegation also met officials of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) led by Sir Hugh Orde and Chief Constable Matt Baggott.

Joining the Chief PNP are; Police Director Lina Sarmiento, PNP Director for Police Community Relations (DPCR), and Chief Superintendent Juanito Vaño Jr., Regional Director of Police Regional Office 9 in Western Mindanao.

The delegation is expected to complete the mission this weekend.
