Alleged ASG member charged with kidnapping at DOJ

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 4): Alleged ASG member charged with kidnapping at DOJ

An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was criminally charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the August 2000 abduction of Jeffrey Schilling, an American national.

Nijal Pajiran, with the aliases of "Abdurahaman," "Abu Kudama," and "Tuan Nidjal," was placed under inquest proceedings for the case of violation of Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code or kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom.

This was after operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-Counter Terrorism Division arrested the suspect on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 266 for a separate case of kidnapping of the members of the Jehovah's Witnesses that occurred on Aug. 20, 2002.

Abdurahman remains at the NBI detention facility after he was arrested by the NBI on Nov. 14, 2013 in Sitio Sinoropan, Barangay Licomo, Zamboanga City.

The new case against Pajiran was filed by the NBI-Counter Terrorism Task Division after a former member of the ASG, who is now under the Witness Protection Program (WPP), positively identified the suspect as the one who allegedly guarded Schilling while he was in captivity by the bandits in Patikul, Sulu.

Schilling was abducted on Aug. 28, 2000 by the ASG which was then led by Khadaffy Janjalani and Aldam Tilao, alias "Abu" Sabaya.

Janjalani and Tilao are now both dead.
