The “Dagyaw Para sa Kalinaw” campaign, derived from the AFP Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan, has brought a major impact in winning the peace in Negros Oriental, Brig. Gen. Aurelio Baladad, 3rd Infantry Division commander, claimed recently.

Baladad said in a statement that with the continued efforts in gaining grounds towards achieving peace, they are certain that Negros Oriental will be free from the affectations of the New People’s Army by yearend.

Within three weeks, 19 assorted firearms, that included two M-72 anti-tank weapons, two M-16 rifles, two M-1 carbine rifles, and assorted hand guns, 12 rifle grenades and 60mm mortar ammunition, were surrendered by 11 rebels in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, and Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, military records show.

That was on top of several high-powered firearms recovered from captured rebels and those recovered at encounter sites. A ranking rebel leader, identified as Nilda Bertulano, alias Frea, was apprehended in Bais City, Negros Oriental, by virtue of arrest warrants for murder and rebellion.

Military records also show that 11 rebels surrendered, seven were captured, and one killed in an encounter in the third quarter of this year in Negros and Panay.

Brig. Gen. Francisco Patrimonio, 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, who supervises the internal security operations in Negros Oriental, said the Bayanihan of the Negrenses led to these significant accomplishments.

He said the continued collaboration between the military, the local government units, other government agencies, civil society organizations and other stakeholders has enabled the campaign to win the peace in this part of the region.
