There is no need to remove the concrete blocks found at the disputed Scarborough Shoal, believed to have been placed by crew of Chinese ships, as these do not pose any danger to vessels, President Benigno Aquino III said on Wednesday.
"These are very, very old concrete blocks. They don't seem to give us any reason to have an increase in anxiety... they don't present an immediate danger to any of our vessels," Aquino said during the annual Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines Presidential Forum.
Department of National Defense officials said that at least 30 concrete blocks were seen two months ago at the Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc.
The blocks could be used for construction in the area, the DND officials added.
