BRP Ramon Alcaraz to be commissioned last week of October

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 3): BRP Ramon Alcaraz to be commissioned last week of October

The Philippine Navy on Thursday announced that the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF-16), the second Hamilton-class cutter in its service, will be commissioned on the last week of October.

"Commissioning and blessing of ceremony of BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF-16) is tentatively scheduled on the last week of October," PN spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic said.

He added that dry-docking works on the ship are proceeding smoothly.

The BRP Ramon Alcaraz went into dry-dock last Aug. 16.

It arrived in the Philippines last Aug. 6 after a two month voyage from the United States.

It added that additional weapons like the two Mark 38 Model2 25-mm "Bushmasters" autocannon and four to six light machine guns will be fitted during the dry-docking period.

The Filipino frigate is presently armed with a quick-firing 76mm Oto Melara main gun which has a range of 20 nautical miles.

Fabic declined to comment on where the frigate is dry docked citing operational security reasons.
