2 Marines killed, 2 civilians wounded in Sulu incident

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 3): 2 Marines killed, 2 civilians wounded in Sulu incident

Two enlisted troops of the Philippine Marine Corps were killed while two civilians were wounded after a still unidentified gunman fired at them while they were near the Mt. Carmel Cathedral, Jolo, Sulu Thursday morning.

Col. Jose Johriel M. Cenabre, 2nd Marine Brigade commander, identified the slain Marines as Cpl. Danilo B. Agustin and Pfc. Gilmor B. Panitan.

Both men were assigned at the 29MC of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 9.

The two were securing the church when fired upon by the lone suspect around 11: 45 a.m.

Both men sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died upon arrival at the Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Busbus, Jolo, Sulu

Wounded in the incident were Daniela Rose Iting, 6, from Anuling, Patikul and Ellyeza Faith Salo, 5, and a resident of Kasulutan Village.

Iting suffered a gunshot wound in the right arm while Salo sustained right heel.

Both are now in stable condition at the Sulu Provincial Hospital.

Cenabre said the Sulu Provincial Police and the Municipal Police of Jolo are now determining the motive for the attack even as pursuit operations are now being conducted against the suspect.
