The
3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based at Camp Macario Peralta in
Jamindan, Capiz has reiterared its commitment to the ideals espoused by the
observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July.
The
Army unit said citizens of Western Visayas can
count on the Army's unequivocal support as the country enters the period of
stormy weather conditions marked by landslides and widespread flooding.
Maj.
Rey Tiongson, spokesman for the 3rd ID, said the region's army contingent is
always responsive to the needs of villagers during calamities and chiefly
responsible for the evacuation of disaster victims.
Tiongson
added that soldiers are on stand-by mode in anticipation of disaster calls.
Army
trucks, which have seen action in numerous rescue operations, are ready to roll
anytime as the need arises, he said.
However,
Tiongson reminded the public that the Army cannot do it alone and needs the
cooperation of the community.
Every
individual has a role to play to soften the impact of disasters, he added.
