Sarangani, Davao del Sur - The MILF Political Committee in Sangir’s District in cooperation with the Mindanao Indigenous People Initiative for Research and Assistance Center, (MIPIRAC) had successfully conducted an advocacy/orientation on the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) held at Municipal Covered Court of Sarangani, Davao del Sur. . This activity was attended by more than 400 individuals majority of them belong to the Bangsamoro Sangir Tribe; community and tribal leaders; women; youth; fisher folks; farmers; and from the religious sector. Also attended were members of the Sangir District Political Committee and MILF-BIAF officers and members.

The activity was facilitated personally by the MIPIRAC’s Executive Director, Mr. Joriskie Ontong to ensure the smooth flow of the program.

The resource speakers were. Esmael A. Abdula, member of the BLMI’s Steering Committee and Training Director; Ustadz Hisham Nando, also a member of BLMI’s Steering Committee; and Quraish Langcap, a representative from the MILF Office of the 1st Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar; and Commander Jerry Abubacar of the 112th BIAF Base Command. The program centered on the letter and intents of FAB and updates on the peace process between the GPH and the MILF.

During the open forum, Analy Pascual, a Moro women leader asked about the steps or process to be undertaken for the inclusion of areas outside the core territory of the proposed Bangsamoro Region. Mr. Abdula, explained a provision on the FAB, regarding the matter. On Territory, under No. 1, (D) it says that “all other contiguous areas where there is a resolution of the local government unit or a petition of at least ten (10%) of the qualified voters in the area asking for their inclusion at least two months prior to the conduct of the ratification of the Bangsamoro Basic Law and the process of delimitation of the Bangsamoro as mentioned in the next paragraph”.

Commander Jerry Abubacar of 112th BIAF Base Command encouraged the participant to continue supporting the GPH-MILF Peace Process; to convey to their families and neighbors the essence of peace and support advocacies on the Framework Agreement.

Commander Abubacar stressed that “The FAB is not solely intended for the welfare of the Bangsamoro or Muslims but for all people living in Mindanao and though out the country.

On the other hand, Mr.Ontong expressed his deepest gratitude to the participants and the resource speakers for their assistance accorded to the Sangir District Poltical Committee and the MIPIRAC which led to the success of the program. Sameer Piang, Sangir District Political Committee Chairman expressed his warmest thanks and urged the Sangir tribe to be united, cooperate with one another and move forward towards the success of the peace process and the realization in soonest possible time the establishment of the Bangsamoro new political entity.

Barangay Chairman Mr, Beyal Malong along with his barangay council members, the PNP personnel in the locality who were present during the program expressed their support in information drive that may be conducted in support to the agreement (FAB). Sangir’s Sultan Pagal Colano of Balut Island also voiced out the same statement of support.

The program ended successfully with the participants fully satisfied on the explanations made by the resource speakers. Abdula -Uz. Nando’s tandem had conducted numerous successful advocacy programs in recent weeks not only in areas populated mainly by Bangsamoro but also in areas where the majority of the residents are settlers.
