The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) could help capture the suspects in the brutal Maguindanao massacre. “If the families of the victims would come to us and request our service then we will think about what we can do for them,” BIFM spokesperson Abu Misry Mama said on Thursday, November 22. Three years since the country's worst case of election violence, 93 out of the 196 suspects remain at large. Mama said BIFM could mobilize its fighters if the victims' relatives will ask for the group’s help and intervention. The rebel spokesman recognized that the government may not welcome their offer. Although he refused to divulge the process the BIFM would follow if they capture the suspects, Mama said they will definitely mete out the death penalty for those proven guilty of participating in the massacre. “If they are guilty then definitely it would be death penalty for them,” Mama said. Mama said they understand the frustration of the victims' relatives because of the long-drawn-out trial. “The justice system in this country is very slow. The Philippine National Police is also very slow that many of the suspects are still at large,” Mama said.
