From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 12): Air Force, Navy hold joint exercise in
Zambo City
The 6th Dagat and Langit (DAGIT) exercise opened Monday in this southern port
city participated by Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Philippine Navy (PN)
personnel.
Dubbed as “Oplan Dagit”, the exercise’s objective is to improve PN-PAF’s
capacity in joint maritime operations in support to the Internal Security
Operations, Territorial Defense Operation and Coast Watch System.
The exercise, which opened Monday and set to end Friday, is also aimed to
improve areas of interoperability and opportunities for cross training between
PN and PAF.
The conduct of Oplan Dagit here in Zamboanga City is the first time since it
started in December 2007.
For the past years, the exercise has been conducted at both the Air Force and
Navy Bases in Sangley Point, Cavite City.
Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) deputy commander Capt. Rafael Mariano,
the Oplan Dagit exercise director, said that the five-day interoperability
exercise will involve series of lectures and practical to be participated by
Task Force 61 ships, Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG), Naval Air Group
(NAG) and Marines for the PN and Strike Wing, Tactical Helicopter Wing, Special
Operations Wing (SPOW) for the PAF.
Mariano said the first three days of the exercise include series of lectures
and drills like aeromedical evacuation, standard first aid/basic life
support/safety, rules of engagement, night flying, communication
interoperability lecture, maritime surveillance, search and rescue, maritime
interdiction operation exercise, casualty evacuation exercise, coast watch
system, forward air control, heliborne operations and close air support.
The fourth day of the exercise will involve practical and the last day will
involve the conduct of sport events, hot wash, and a closing ceremony, Mariano
said.
