2 Million Signatures For Peace

From the Manila Bulletin (Nov11): 2 Million Signatures For Peace

BAGAC, Bataan — A massive signature campaign, dubbed “Quest for Peace,” is now in full swing and targets at least 2 million participants throughout the country, the project’s advocates in this province said yesterday. Dr. Junn Teopengco, president of the Alpha Phi Omega-Bataan chapter, solicited the support of Senior Superintendent Ricardo Zapata, Bataan Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, for the project in this province. Teopengco said once the 2 million signatures is achieved, the testament of peace will be presented in December to President Benigno S. Aquino III at Malacañang.
Initially, the campaign will target students and the youth in a bid to make them bearers of the responsibility of establishing a peaceful new generation for the country. Teopengco spoke with Zapata during a visit at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, a world-class beach resort and hotel which features unique century-old facilities. The military, on the other hand, has also its own peace campaign after it launched “Books for Peace,” initiated by its Civil Military Operations that emphasizes a major part being played by the education sector in the nation’s quest for peace.
