From ABS-CBN (Oct 2): Leftist group wants Akbayan disqualified

"Many leaders who came from Akbayan are now holding key positions in Aquino's government. Anakbayan is a CPP-affiliated sectoral front for militant youth. It adheres to the reaffirmist national democratic line of the CPP. Members of Akbayan, on the other hand broke away from the CPP back in the 1990s after they rejected the primacy of Marxist-Leninist-Mao Zhe Dong Thought and peasant-based guerrilla war in favor of socialist-oriented partcipation in the Philippine elctoral system. Over the years there have been heated ideological exchanges between leaders of the CPP and Akbayan. And Akbayan, which does not have an armed wing, has accused the CPP of using its military wing, the New People's Army (NPA) to target Akbayan members out in the provinces.
