ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Islamic State East Asia Province (ISEAP) has claimed wounding or killing seven government soldiers in a clash in the southern Philippines where security forces are battling the extremist group Dawlah Islamiya.This was reported Thursday by the Washington DC-based Middle East Media Research Institute which monitors tracks, translates, researches, and analyzes cyber jihad originating from the Middle East, Iran, South Asia, and North and West Africa.
It said pro-ISIS fighters attacked a group of soldiers on Wednesday in Maguindanao del Sur’s Datu Hofer town, but ISEAP did not provide further reports about the assault.
The 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army confirmed the fighting and said only two soldiers and four terrorists were wounded in the clash which erupted in Tuayan village after members of the Dawlah Islamiya attacked patrolling troops.
No other details were made available by the military except that security forces were pursuing the terrorists who managed to escape from the fighting.
Last August, members of the Dawlah Islamiya under Commander Yusa Ganoy assaulted a police detachment in the village of Pagatin in Datu Salibo town, also in Maguindanao del Sur. The attack wounded three policemen, all members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14.
Authorities have blamed the Dawlah Islamiya - which is fighting for the establishment of a caliphate in the South - for the spate of attacks on police and military targets, including innocent civilians in the restive region. (Mindanao Examiner)
