OPAPRU holds Joint Verification Group Training for MNLF Transformation Program in Basilan
Isabela City, Basilan – A 3-day Joint Verification Group (JVeG) Training was successfully conducted by the Joint Body on the Management of the Arms and Forces (JBMAF) spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) at Headquarters 101st Infantry Brigade, Barangay Tabiawan, Isabela City, Basilan from August 15-17, 2023.
The convergence was attended by representatives from the military, Moro National Liberation Front, and Philippine National Police. They had a series of workshops, interactive discussions, and simulation exercises designed to enhance their capabilities in processing MNLF Combatants thru the MNLF Transformation Program.
The training aimed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge as they prepare to launch the MNLF Transformation Program – a comprehensive initiative designed to foster socio-economic stability, security enhancement, confidence-building, and community healing and reconciliation of former MNLF combatants.
Brigadier General Alvin V Luzon, Commander of Joint Task Force Basilan, emphasized the significance of training and convergence of efforts to attain the transformation program's goals towards unity and mutual understanding.
Additionally, the training was led by the active involvement of Brigadier General Buenaventura C Pascual (Retired), Chairperson, GPH Peace and Security Sub-Committee, OPAPRU; Ms. Maricon Sagayno, Focal for the Security Component of the MNLF Transformation Program, OPAPRU; the MNLF contingent led by Col. Abduhramman Jhovel (Ret.); Colonel Noel E Buncab, Chief, Bangsamoro Peace Support Division; Lieutenant Colonel Abel O Potutan, Executive Officer, JTF Basilan; Police Lieutenant Colonel Heinrich Alafriz, Chief, PNP Peace Process, Development Center; CPT Emmanuel U Manabon, Chief, Civil Affairs Branch, OU7, Westmincom; and CPT John Reynan P Lubguban, Civil-Military Operations Officer, JTF Basilan.
