The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) condemns the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for bombing mountain farms in several villages in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental yesterday morning, which put civilian lives in danger and showed utter disregard for the people’s economic rights.
The artillery shelling was mounted by the 62nd Infantry Battalion from their detachment in Barangay Villegas starting at 5:00 a.m. and lasted until 6:30 a.m. The bombs landed in the forested area around the border of Barangay Nagsaha, Villegas, Magsaysay and Imelda. The area is being used by local farmers as vegetable farms.
The hour and a half-long bombardment is barefaced state-terrorism unleashed by fascist troops under the 62nd IB. These bombings carried out by the AFP within the proximity of peasant communities endangers the lives of civilians in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
Residents are traumatized by the artillery shelling and many are forced to stay in their homes, concerned about their safety. As of earlier today, they have yet to check on their farms and farm animals for fear that soldiers will mount another round of shelling.
Soldiers of the 62nd IB and the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s 7th Regional Mobile Force Battalion have swarmed several villages in Guihulngan, pestering the peasant masses, disturbing local peace, disrupting the people’s livelihood and causing economic hardships.
