CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – Three (3) more members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) have embraced a peaceful life as they surrendered to different line units of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division due to the intensified focused military operations in Regions 10 and 13.

Lt. Col. Jerold H Jale, Commanding Officer of the 30th Infantry Battalion, stated that on April 1, 2023, a certain Abel Guevarra “Philmar/Filmar” Sanchez, 22 years old, the squad leader of Platoon 1 under the so-called Guerilla Front (GF) 30 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), have surrendered at the 30IB Headquarters, Brgy. Mahanub, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte.

Lt. Col. Jale added that on April 4, Tuesday, a follow-up operation was conducted by 30IB together with the troops of the 36th Infantry Battalion, under Lt. Col. Michael Rey S Reuyan, after Sanchez disclosed a location of an arms cache in Brgy. Pantukan, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur which led to the capture of one M16 Rifle, and one AK47 Rifle with seven (7) magazines.

Meanwhile, another two (2) CTG members identified as Roselyn “Sarah/Osang” C. Sampayan, 37 years old, a regional staff of the NEMRC and member of Sentro de Gravidad (SDG) 16 of the weakened GF16, NEMRC; and Juliet “Marjun” N. Sampaga, 38 years old, an armed member of Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP), also under the weakened GF16, NEMRC have voluntarily surrendered to the 29th Infantry Battalion under the leadership of Lt. Col. Cresencio Gargar. They also brought along with them one AR18 Rifle with one (1) magazine loaded with five (5) rounds ammunition.

Initial interviews with the surrenderers revealed that extreme hunger, exhaustion, and the lack of mass support due to the relentless military operations caused them to realize and abandon the terrorist organization.

On the other hand, on March 31, 2023, troops of the 88th Infantry Battalion encountered more or less 20 CTG members at Sitio Saluringan, Brgy. Canangaan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon which resulted to the seizure of one (1) M16 rifle and a commercial radio.

4ID Commander Maj. Gen. Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II lauded the sustained effort of his troops against the CTG as he further directed them to intensify collaborations with various stakeholders while relentlessly pursuing remaining elements to continue to frustrate the CTG plans and recovery efforts. “As we push further with our campaign to eradicate this terrorist group, we will continue to put pressure on them through effective combat operations and ensure the denial of logistical and financial support from the people to dampen down their will to fight,” He added.
