To jeepney drivers and other transportation workers:

Together with the Filipino people and all revolutionary forces, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) conveys militant greetings and solidarity with your one-week transport strike and protest actions to fight for your well-being and rights. We salute your demonstrated unity and determination to resist the neoliberal attacks against your livelihood.

Your actions in the coming days will surely reap more success and support from the people.

It is only right that you fight the anti-poor Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) that will ban the operation of jeepneys. The PUVMP is being pushed by the Marcos regime in the name of the interests of the big bourgeoisie compradores and their partners foreign capitalist suppliers of vehicles. They want to seize the livelihood of jeepney drivers and other workers and completely control and monopolize the income from public transportation in the Philippines. The workers, students, teachers and common people are also against it because it will deny them to buy cheap transportation.

The Marcos regime does not care about the hundreds of thousands who will lose their livelihoods under the PUVMP. So it is only fitting that you unite and show your opposition. Your protest, which is supported by the general public, is the most effective way to prevent Marcos from running into the PUVMP. We join in criticizing the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other agencies and forces of the state to block the protests in an attempt to gag your mouths and prevent you from shouting.

Raise your militant spirit of resistance. Raise your unity and resist what Marcos and his agents will do to divide your ranks. Just as you are supported by different sectors, you should also support the struggles to defend the interests of the different democratic sectors of the Filipino people.

Fight together against rising oil prices and the hoarding of huge profits by multinational oil companies. Together, demand wage increases and lower prices for food and commodities, increased budgets for health and education services, and other public services.

Struggle hard in the face of the intensifying crisis and suffering of the people caused by the pro-foreigner and anti-people neoliberal policies of the Marcos regime.
