Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – February 6, 2023

Troops of the 41st Infantry Battalion supported the law enforcement operation conducted by the PNP Special Action Force in Maimbung, Sulu, in the wee hours of February 5, 2023.

The report from Joint Task Force Sulu revealed that an hour before the actual operation, the 1101st Infantry Brigade based in Bud Bayug, Talipao, Sulu received information that the PNP Special Action Force will conduct law enforcement operation to serve a warrant of arrest to Juko Dahim, a.k.a. Juko. While approaching the target area, Juko and his cohorts fired upon the operating personnel of the PNP SAF forcing them to retaliate.

JTF Sulu immediately deployed two platoons of the 41IB to support the engaged troops. Checkpoint operations were also initiated to block the possible withdrawal routes of the enemies.

The firefight resulted in the wounding of one PNP SAF personnel and the deaths of seven lawless personalities including the target. Other slain personalities were identified as Jimming Akial, a.k.a. Iron; the son of Iron; Al Dimar Kanih; Gamil Halik; Malik Iron; and Norhan Pasi. Two unidentified personalities were also apprehended in the operation.

Meanwhile, two civilians were accidentally hit by bullets during the encounter. They were immediately evacuated to the Integrated Provincial Health Office in Jolo for medical treatment.

While scouring the area, operating troops recovered one M16 BA Colt, one M16 Elisco, one Colt M16, one Cal. Multi MDST 15, one M203 Grenade Launcher, one Colt AR 15, three M14 7.62; and assorted ammunition and firearm accessories.

“Our troops are always ready to assist our partners in implementing the law in our area of operation. Above all, our primary concern is the safety of the people. We aspire to free communities from violence and criminalities; hence, we support other law enforcement agencies to aid in the successful conduct of their operations,” Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, Commander of Western Mindanao Command, said.
