Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – July 21, 2022

Five members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters surrendered to the troops of the 90th Infantry Battalion on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. The former violent extremists handed over two Garand rifles, one M14 rifle, one M14 Sniper rifle, and one 60mm Mortar.

Surrendered personalities were subsequently presented to 602nd Infantry Brigade Commander, Col. Jovencio Gonzales at Camp Lucero, Poblacion, Carmen, Cotabato. Their identities are withheld for security purposes.

During the debriefing, the five said that they felt it is time for them to abandon their armed struggle because they saw the sincerity of the government in assisting the returnees in their reintegration into mainstream society.

Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong, Acting Commander of Joint Task Force Central said that the voluntary surrender of the former BIFF-Karialan Faction members was a result of the joint efforts of the 90IB and the intelligence units deployed in the province of Cotabato.

Western Mindanao Command Chief, Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario Jr. commended the troops for this accomplishment. “The efforts and sacrifices of our soldiers are being rewarded with the significant breakthroughs in the campaign against terrorism and insurgency in our area of operation.”
