Police and military operatives arrested Monday dawn a suspected supporter of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, and seized from him an explosive, a firearm, and ammunition.

Armed with a search warrant, government security forces nabbed Jerry Tapales Fabillaran, 43, of Barangay Manluminsag in the said municipality, at his house around 4:35 a.m., a report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) said.

Acting Presiding Judge Anthony Dumpilo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 64 in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental issued the search warrant.

Authorities found a hand grenade, a .38-cal. revolver, and three rounds of live .38-caliber ammunition during the search of the Fabillaran’s house.

In an interview, Lt. Col. Ruben Verbo Jr., NOPPO public information officer, said based on the intelligence report, Fabillaran is “an active supporter of the NPA and is monitored to have his residence (used) as a meeting place for the mass base of the insurgents".

Fabillaran allegedly provides food and accommodation to the insurgents operating in the first district of Negros Oriental, Verbo said.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The National Democratic Front has been formally designated as a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, citing it as “an integral and inseparable part” of the CPP-NPA created in April 1973.
