Two explosions rocked late Monday Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, a top military official said.
Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan commander, said no one was injured or killed in the twin explosions that happened one after the other.
However, Ronda del Basilan posted on his Facebook page quoting Lt. Col. Julpikar Sitin, Isabela City police chief, said the second explosion injured two persons.
Sitin could not be reached for comment.
Ronda del Basilan is the Facebook page of Richard Falcatan, the station manager of the lone radio station in Isabela City.
Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman said on her Facebook page that one person, who sustained minor injury, is being treated in the hospital.
The first explosion happened around 5:45 p.m. at the parking lot of a food chain outlet in downtown Isabela City.
“Initial assessment said the explosion was due to alleged faulty wirings,” Gobway said in a text message.
The second explosion happened around 6:15 p.m. at the bus station of D’Biel Transport Company along Valderosa Street, Barangay La Piedad.
Hataman urged the Isabeleños to remain calm but vigilant.
