February 16, 2022- Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista – In observation where terrorists are adapting to the modern methods of recruitment, 1102nd Commander Col Giovanni T Franza in coordination with the Joint Task Force – Sulu and 11th Infantry Division invited 403rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion Commander Ltc Jannette C Arceo (Res) as resource speaker on Countering Online Youth Radicalization.

During the engagements, Ltc Arceo emphasized the need for discernment since most of the recruitment made online use fake news and wrong interpretation of holy text. She further encouraged the participants to consult with their parents or elders and religious leaders before believing what they encounter online especially through social media.

1102nd Bde Commander Col Franza expressed his gratitude to Ltc Arceo in helping with the awareness campaign by 1102nd Infantry Brigade to prevent violent extremism. The awareness campaign was attended by students of Notre Dame of Jolo College, Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) and selected military personnel.

Ltc Arceo together with 11ID Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retiree Affairs Col Jose Emmanuel L Mariano and 906th Regional Center Defense Group Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) Commanding Officer Ltc Andres A Soriano, also visited Reservists and ROTC units in the province.

During her engagements with Reservists and ROTC cadets she did not only share her research but also imparted notes on leadership in context of the peculiarities of the regular force and reserve force.

Ltc Arceo also engaged with the faculty and students of Sulu State College, facilitating a discourse in countering online youth radicalization.

Ltc Soriano mentioned that the exchange of ideas will enable the 420 members of 906 1st Ready Reserve Battalion to be more vigilant in preventing violent extremism.

Acting Division Commander BGen Antonio I Bautista Jr expressed his gratitude to Ltc Arceo for familiarizing the troops on the terrorists method in recruiting our youth through the internet and for guiding the youth of Sulu to consult with their parents and religious leaders before believing what they encounter online. He also said that the expansion of the reserve force is a priority for the Alakdan Division to enable the province to attain peace, stability and development.
