Posted to Kalinaw News (Feb 16, 2022): Former KADAMAY Member turned NPA surrendered with a firearm, explosives in Nueva Ecija

FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — The Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army, Major General Andrew D. Costelo PA welcomed the surrender of a former member of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) turned member of the dismantled Komiteng Larangang Guerilla – Sierra Madre (KLG-SM) of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) to the government authorities on February 15, 2022.

MGen Costelo identified the CTG personality as Jearald S. Acampado alias “Pado”, single, 26 years old, a resident of Batasan Hills, Quezon City and member of Squad Uno of KLG Sierra Madre.

Alias “Pado” surrendered along with one Smith and Wesson Cal. 38 revolver and one HE hand grenade to the combined elements of 1PMFC, NEPPO led by PCMS Ryan C. Brillantes (lead unit) together with the troops from 91st Infantry (SINAGTALA) Battalion, Philippine Army, led by its Commanding Officer, LTC Reandrew Rubio, and troops from 703rd Infantry (AGILA) Brigade at 1PMFC, Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office, Cabanatuan City.

He revealed to the authorities that he was recruited by a member of KADAMAY in Batasan Hills, Quezon City in 2016 and lured him to join the terrorist organization.

Witnessing how his comrades die due to illness without proper medication and burial made him decide to surrender to the authorities.

“Nakita kong namatay sa sakit ang binaon nalang sa tabi ng kampo namin ang aming kasamahan. Naisip ko, paano kaya kung sa akin din nangyari iyon? Kaya pinilit ko talagang bumaba at sobrang bumaba na ang moral ko,” said alias ‘Pado’.

LTC Rubio, on the other hand reiterates his call to the remnants of KLG-SM to abandon the terrorist organization and live a peaceful life.

“This is the right time to surrender due to unwavering support from the NGAs and LGUs especially under the E-CLIP,” said LTC Rubio.

The Commander of the 703rd Infantry (AGILA) Brigade, Colonel Joseph Norwin Pasamonte lauded the courage of alias “Pado” and encourage him to support the peace and development programs of the government and join a peaceful community.

Meanwhile, MGen Costelo said that it is not anymore surprising that KADAMAY is involved in the recruitment of alias “Pado” to the terrorist organization and warned everyone to be vigilant to the CTG’s front organization’s dubious activities especially these coming elections.

“This is a clear link between the KADAMAY and the CTG, kaya pinapalakas natin ang ating information operations sa mga kalungsuran at kanayunan na huwag sumali sa mga prenteng grupo ng teroristang grupo gaya ng KADAMAY,” said MGen Costelo.
