The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) seized ammunition and food from a hideout of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Onop, Miag-ao, Iloilo on Sunday.

Soldiers from the 61st Infantry Battalion proceeded to the area after one rebel surrenderee informed the Army about their hideout.

Colonel Harold Garcia, commander of the 61IB, believed that the hideout might have been where the rebels held meetings last year.

On Dec. 1, 2021 16 rebels died during an encounter in Barangay Alimodias, Miag-ao and also overran their hideouts.

“I am once again calling all the remaining rebels to return to the folds of the law. We are giving you an opportunity to have a peaceful life. Your senseless armed struggle can never save your lives. Come down, return to your government and family, and be our partner for peace and progress,” Garcia said.
