23IB seizes firearm, runs over hideout after clash with NPA

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte – The 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion (23IB) launched a relentless Focused Military Operations (FMO) against the elements of Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad (SRSDG) SAGAY, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) led by Rogelio Gerondo @NAPNAP on December 08, 2021, in the vicinity of Sitio Tacub, Barangay Rizal, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
 
The FMO resulted in a 10-minute skirmish with at least 10 NPA insurgents in said area. The guerrillas then scampered in different directions as the 23IB troops managed to overrun their position that turned out to be a hideout they have been hiding for days.

The armed confrontation took place at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday that also led to the recovery of one (1) M4 Rifle with one (1) magazine with 21 rounds of ammunition. The 23IB troops also recovered two (2) containers containing assorted live ammunition at the abandoned hideout. The said hideout can accommodate more or less 10 persons.

During the clearing operations, bloodstains were also seen marked in the direction of the enemy withdrawal routes indicating that there were members of Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) who suffered severe wounds in the encounter site.

The civilian populace of the said barangay who have enjoyed relative peace and discarded CNT atrocities reported to proper authorities the presence of CNTs temporarily encamping near their area that later acted on by 23IB.

Lt. Col. Julius Cesar C. Paulo, the Commanding Officer of 23IB said the FMO was launched in response to the information voluntarily provided by the residents in the area.
 
“The civilians in the Barangay Rizal were alarmed by the presence of the armed men. We immediately deployed our troops to ensure the safety and security of the people in said barangay and the neighboring communities,” Paulo said.

He emphasized that the 23IB has been relentless in the conduct of FMOs to drive out the remaining communist terrorists from the barangays and isolate the communities from their influence and atrocities.

The 23IB commander also reiterated his call for the remaining NPA rebels in the area to surrender, otherwise, they will be facing the might of the continuing military operations.
 
"Our forces on the ground are unleashing their combat skills. For those who remain enslaved by the false ideology of the NPA and continue to challenge the government, show us what you’ve got and face the brunt and the painful consequences of our persistent FMOs. For those wanting to take the path to real peace, come to us and we will help you,” Paulo said.
