CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela- Six barangays in the province of Cagayan received 20 million pesos each under the Support to Barangay Development Program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) on October 18, 2021.

Barangays Apayao and Villa Reyno in the municipality of Piat; Anurtutu, Liuan, and Minanga in Rizal town; and Balanni in Sto. Nino are the first beneficiaries in Cagayan Province of the said program for the infrastructure projects in their barangay. All projects are identified by the locals based on their primary needs. It includes farm-to-market roads, health stations, school buildings, water systems, solar dryers, livelihood projects and additional electric posts among others.

The said barangays were cleared from the Communist Terrorists’ influence and they sustained being free from any affiliation with the said group.

Lt Col Angelo Saguiguit, Commanding Officer of 17th Infantry Battalion said that this is part of the government’s effort to resolve the issues raised in the community. “The government endeavors to help its citizens specially those in far flung barangays. Let us all stay united against insurgents to keep developments flow in our community.”

BGen Steve D Crespillo, Brigade Commander of 501st Infantry Brigade urged the remaining barangays in the CTG infested areas to also support the government’s call to end local communist armed conflict in order to attain progress and development.

Meanwhile, MGen Laurence E Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army said that the locals have created their own peaceful and progressive community by deciding to abandon the CTGs. “This is the government’s response to address the concerns of its people. The ultimate goal is to lift every community to progress and that no Filipino will be left behind.”
