The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received land donations in two areas in the northern part of Negros Occidental for the construction of its various facilities.
On Wednesday, the City of Escalante formalized the donation for 6 hectares of land in Barangay Alimango in a ceremonial signing held at Marino Del Norte Resort.
The deed of donation was signed by Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. and Commodore Hostillo Cornelio, commander of Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV).
“We thank the Local Government Unit of Escalante for the generous donation. This is a timely acquisition and a milestone development,” Cornelio said in a statement.
He said the Coast Guard will use the land for the establishment of infrastructure such as a training center.
Yap acknowledged the importance of securing the waters and the three ports of Escalante, which is considered a gateway to Cebu Island.
The donated land will strengthen the presence of the Coast Guard in the area, even more, he added.
Last week, the CGDWV also entered into a usufruct agreement with donor Manuel Lamata for the use of his property for the construction of an airbase in northern Negros.
The land, which is about 30,000 square meters, is located in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City.
“We are grateful to Mr. Lamata for donating a portion of his lot in support of the PCG’s mission to serve the nation with patriotism, compassion, and fear of God,” Capt. Ludovico Librilla, deputy commander of CGDWV, said in a statement after signing the deed on Sept. 23.
The airbase will be utilized for the delivery of Coast Guard service through aerial assets in Western Visayas.
“It will allow the PCG to conduct aircraft landing, refueling, and restocking of materials for logistical missions, such as search and rescue operations, reconnaissance, aerial surveys, and aerial domain awareness,” Librilla added.
