June 24, 2021, Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu – In a joint law enforcement with the PNP, troops of the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division figured in a shootout with four Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members in Brgy Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu.

“They were supposed to serve a warrant of arrest around 11:55pm yesterday against ASG member Rudymar Habib Jihiiran alias Gulam when our troops under 1102 Infantry Brigade were shot at by him and his comrades. A firefight ensued, which resulted to the death of an alias Sawi – a bandit under subleader Amah Patit. Further, the security forces were able to rescue an individual later identified as Sitti Aisyah Rullie also known as Maryam Israni. She is an Indonesian who is being indoctrinated in conducting bombings and also the wife of Jihiiran,” said 11th Infantry Division Commander MGen William N Gonzales.

Authorities from the Scene of the Crime Operation of PNP are currently conducting a forensic investigation on the location. Recovered inside the house was an olive green backpack containing an electric blasting cap, a 12 inches long blue detonating cord , a pair of 9 volts battery and cellphones.

According to 45th Infantry Battalion Commander Ltc Vicente B Mabborang Jr who was part of last night’s operation, the residents of Barangay Bakung reported the presence of the group. “Nag- Community Support Program kami roon kaya talagang naging kapalagayan namin ng loob ang mga tao. Noong nagkaputukan na yung mga CAFGU naman ng 5th Special Forces Company ang naging reinforcement. Lahat ito ay dahil din sa suporta rin ng LGU.”

Ltc Mabborang also revealed that Aisya Rullie is a daughter of an Indonesian couple who were the perpetrators of 2019 Jolo Cathedral Bombing. “Anak siya nina foreign terrorist Rullie Rian Zeke at Ulfa Handayani Saleh, ‘yung suicide bombers sa Cathedral. Yung kapatid naman nito na si Rezky Fantasya Rullie alias Cici, naaresto sa isang raid sa Jolo noong October 2020. Doon kay Gulam at sa isa pang nakatakas ngayon. Tuloy-tuloy ang pursuit operations,” Ltc Mabborang stated.

Likewise, authorities disclosed that Siti Aisya Rullie is still a minor. “We are on the process of validating but she is estimated to be 13 years of age. Still, we in the security sector have no choice but to coordinate with concerned agencies and act on this. She is married to a full pledged ASG, her older brother is an armed member under the Daulah Islamiyah group, and per intel reports she is being groomed as a suicide bomber. There is a risk here,” MGen Gonzales said.

“With regards her disposition, of course, we will just abide by what is prescribe by the law. We sincerely hope that she could be deracialized and have another chance on a decent life. Involving children in this kind of terroristic act is outright shameful and a clear violation of our existing laws,” he added

To note, there were seven foreign terrorists in Sulu on the year 2019. Today, there are only two remaining foreign terrorists in the province- Indonesian Ahmad Ibrahim Rullie, and Egyptian identified as alias Abdurahman- both of them minors.
