From the Manila Times (Jun 12, 2021): 4 dead in Army-NPA clashes in Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental
Two members of the New People's Army (NPA) and two soldiers were killed in separate encounters in Agusan del Norte and Misamis Oriental, a belated military report said on Saturday.It identified the fatalities as Private First Class Glory A. Sagod, and Sgt. Van A. Tadlas, both of the Army's 29th Infantry Battalion.
The names of four other soldiers who were wounded were not immediately released.
Lt. Gilo Lauringuez, the team leader of the 29IB, said that the soldiers had an initial encounter with an undetermined number of NPA rebels, serving as blocking forces, in the village of Santiago, Agusan Del Norte two days ago. Sagod was killed in the firefight.
Lauringuez said that the government troops were on their way to resupply another Army unit, which had encountered NPA rebels of the Guerilla Front 16 of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Command.
The first group of Army troops ran into an lmprovised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the retreating communist insurgents, wounding five military personnel, including Tadlas who eventually died from his injuries, Lauringuez said.
In Misamis Oriental, the army's 58IB encountered a group of rebels Tuesday in Salay, which resulted in the death of one member and the recovery of a body and a high powered firearm.
Lt. Jefferson Mariano, spokesman of the 58IB, identified one of the slain NPA rebels as Elly Marianas Cabusog, alias "Dariel," a member of the Guerilla Front Huawei of the Sub-regional Committee 1 of North Central Mind Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).
Marianas is a resident of Salahon, part of the mountain village of Alipuaton, Salaym Misamis Oriental.
Mariano said government troops also recovered another unidentified body with his M16 rifle, personal belongings and medical paraphernalia.
The bodies of the slain NPA rebels were turned over to the local government in Salay where they will be buried.
