From Kalinaw News (May 29, 2021): Sabah authorities turn over 8 captured Abu Sayyaf members to the troops of Philippine government in Tawi-Tawi
Bakungan, Turtle Island, Tawi-Tawi – Malaysian Authorities through the Eastern Sabah Security Command led by Datuk Ahmad Fuad Osman, the Deputy Commissioner of Police turned over the eight recently captured Abu Sayyaf to the Philippine Government led by Western Mindanao Command’s Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi/Naval Task Group Tawi-Tawi/ 2nd Marine Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Arturo G Rojas on May 28, 2021.
The Ceremonial Turnover was conducted aboard Philippine Navy vessel BRP IVATAN (LC298) in the waters off Bakungan, Turtle Island, Tawi-Tawi near the border between Malaysia and the Philippines. Brig. Gen. Rojas was joined by the Municipal Mayor of Taganak Hon. Mohammad Faizal Jamalul and other participants from the Provincial PNP, CIDG, and Bureau of Immigration.
The said Abu Sayyaf members were formally turned over to Sulu Officials led by Colonel Hernanie S Songano, Commander Naval Task Group Sulu and 4th Marine Brigade who also represented the Joint Task Force Sulu. According to NTG-Sulu PAO, the eight Abu Sayyaf were recently captured by the Malaysian Authorities last May 08, 2021 in Beaufort, Sabah Malaysia through the concerted Intelligence gathering efforts facilitated by both neighboring countries.
“The Abu Sayyaf bandits fled from Sulu due to the relentless Focused Military Operations (FMO) undertaken by the Joint Task Force Sulu and it’s Naval Task Group Sulu”, said Colonel Songano. “The ESSCOM joins the Philippine Government Troops in its advocacy of defeating and finally ending terrorism in its Areas of Operation”, added Datuk Osman. Finally, Brig. Gen. Rojas commended the unwavering support of ESSCOM, “through our unique partnership comes great and significant endeavors”. The eight Abu Sayyaf members transported back to Sulu and received by Joint Task Force Sulu for their medical check-up prior their turnover to PNP.
