Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu – Residents of Barangays Maligay and Buhanginan – Darayan, in Patikul, Sulu, received relief assistance and support on May 28, 2021.

About 209 families of Barangay Maligay and and 174 families of Darayan each received 50kgs of rice and other grocery items courtesy of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process, Sulu Provincial Government, Patikul Municipal Local Government Unit and 11th Infantry Division (11ID).

Through the Balik Barangay Program, residents of Barangay Maligay formally returned to their land on November 5, 2020 after four years of being displaced due to armed conflict between the government forces and Abu Sayyaf. Six months after, significant developments were apparent such as farm to market roads and ongoing construction of barangay hall. Maj. Gen. William N Gonzales, Commander, 11ID, address the residents, “I still vividly recall that last year, we were also gathered here to formalize your return to this Barangay. There were no concrete roads, we were ankle deep in thick mud and several houses were still halfway built. Now I see you have reclaimed your home after years of being displaced. We are here again today to fulfill our promise, to be alongside you in rebuilding your community.”

In an interview, a senior citizen Meriam Aradji Ibbal expressed her gratitude to all who have help them to return their home. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Gerald Monfort, Commander, 21st Infantry Battalion shared to the residents that they are also able to avail Alternative Learning System (ALS). “We have 104 basic learners and 64 out of school. It’s nice to see that Kapitana (Captain) Diding Hajiraini also pursues her studies.” Moreover, Col Tarahuddin Ampatuan, Deputy Commander 1102nd Infantry Brigade emphasized that the people strong faith in Islam have played an integral role in healing and rebuilding their community. “This is the reason why we are dealing to this People’s Peace Covenant. To unite and make our faith even stronger…” Additionally, Sulu Local Government Representative Mr Noenrie Asiri and Patikul Mayor Kabir Hayudini also present in the activity.
