ILOILO CITY, April 8 (PIA) – A number of various firearms were seized by troops of the Philippine Army following series of encounters with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) Terrorist in Iloilo towns.

According to 301st Brigade Civil Military Operations Officer Capt. Hazel Joy Durotan, the Army’s 12th Infantry (Lick’ Em) Battalion seized various firearms after series of encounters with the CPP-NPA Terrorist in Iloilo towns.

The recent encounter took place in Barangay Alabidhan, Bingawan, Iloilo in the early morning of April 7, 2021, after receipt of reports from the civilian populace on the presence of armed communist terrorists passing through the village.



Recovered after the brief encounter were two homemade shotguns, two magazines for a homemade shotgun with 10 rounds ammunition, magazine for 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, four rounds carbine ammunition, shrapnel for landmine, 15 meters electrical wire; two backpacks, grocery items, two hammocks, cooking pot, personal belongings, and propaganda materials, Durotan said in a press release.

She added that on April 5, the troops of 12IB also figured in a brief firefight with the members of NPA’s Baloy Platoon, Central Front Committee, Komiteng Rehiyon -Panay (KR-P) in Barangay Aglubong, Janiuay, Iloilo.

The five-minute encounter resulted in the recovery of one M16 rifle, one M203 Grenade launcher, one M16 magazine with 28 rounds of ammunition, one cellphone, one backpack, one commercial radio, one hammock, three pairs of slippers, two rain boots, one first aid kit, and civilian clothes.

A temporary harbor site that can accommodate more or less 12 communist terrorists was also discovered after the encounter, she said.



On the other hand, 301Bde Commander BGen Marion Sison lauded the community for providing the Army troops accurate information on the movement and location of the communist-terrorists.

“This is an indication that the people are fed up with the presence and atrocities of the communist-terrorist group in their localities. With the people on our side, we are optimistic that we can put the decades-long cruelty of the CPP-NPA Terrorists to its end,” Sison said. (PIA6/With report and photos from 301Bde-CMO)
