CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur (PIA) -- The Philippine Army (PA) in Bicol sustains the momentum of its campaign to topple the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) as it discovered a firearm cache belonging to the said group, April 21, Wednesday.

Seized caliber 5.56 bushmaster rifle, caliber 5.56 Colt AR-15 rifle, eight magazines, 187 rounds of ammunition, bandolier and terrorist propaganda materials by 9ID's 49th Infantry Battalion (49IB) in Brgy. San Antonio, Oas, Albay, April 21, Wednesday. (Photo credits: DPAO/49IB)

The said firearms cache which consists of caliber 5.56 bushmaster rifle, caliber 5.56 Colt AR-15 rifle, eight magazines, 187 rounds of ammunition, bandolier and terrorist propaganda materials were found in the hinterlands of Brgy. San Antonio, Oas, in the province of Albay.

A tip-off from concerned citizens guided the elements of the 49th Infantry Battalion (49IB), who are conducting security operations on that day in the said place.

“Some concerned citizens reported about the suspicious things left by the CTG members in Sitio Tinahuban when they chanced upon the said war materiel. Fortunately, our government troops are there to conduct their usual security operations,” Division Public Information Office (DPAO) Spokesperson CAPT John Paul Belleza stated.

In a press statement, Lt. Col. Benjamin Tapnio, Commanding Officer of 49IB said that with the discovery and capture of the said firearms and propaganda materials, violence and recruitment schemes of the CTG will be prevented.

"Nagpapasalamat kami sa mga residenteng tumulong at nakipag-ugnayan sa atin. Kung hindi natin ito nakuha, gagamitin na naman ito ng mga komunistang terorista laban sa tropa ng gobyerno at sa mga inosenteng sibilyan (We would like to extend our gratitude to the residents who helped and coordinated with us. If we were not able to seize these items, it will be used by the communist terrorists to the government troops or to innocent civilians)," Lt. Col. Tapnio said.

902nd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Jaime Abawag Jr., directed the troops to continue scouring the area as the presence of the arms cache is part of the communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) mischievous scheme and dirty tactic.

"The CTG doesn't go to an area without an ill motive. Keeping their firearms in the said place means that they are just around the corner, lying in, waiting to launch their lawless acts. Pero hindi natin hahayaan mangyari ‘yan. Sa patuloy na pakikipagtulungan ng mga Bicolano, hindi mangyayari ‘yan (We will not allow that. With the continuous cooperation that the Bicolanos, it (terroristic acts) will not happen.” Col. Abawag said.

9ID and Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) Commander MGEN Henry A. Robinson, Jr. PA, corroborated the statement made by Col. Abawag, thanked the public and asked for their cooperation for the government to win the war against the CTG. He also cautioned the public and asked them to be vigilant.

"Hindi pa nga isang araw, may score na naman tayo. Isali pa natin 'yong nasamsam na kilo-kilong anti-personnel mines at nadiskubre nating illegal mining site na kinukontrol ng CTG sa Lagonoy (It was not even a day yet but we scored again against our fight with the CTG. Lets include the kilos of anti-personnel land mines tha our government troops have seized in a mining area controlled by CTG).”

“With these losses, the CTG will surely retaliate in a desperate manner to cover-up their waning capability. That is why we are implementing stringent security measures all over Bicol to thwart any possible terroristic acts of this communist insurgents," MGen. Robinson stated.

Belleza added that on Tuesday, April 20, two (2) M16 rifles, magazines and ammunition were also recovered after the successful military engagement in Masbate. (PIA5/Camarines Sur, with reports from CPTJPBelleza, DPAO)
