Kalinaw News: Agnor remote village gets food packs from Army, LGU

From Kalinaw News (Feb 5, 2021): Agnor remote village gets food packs from Army, LGU

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte— Residents in a remote village in Agusan del Norte recently received relief food packs from the collaboration of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Nasipit, the 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion (23IB) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority of Agusan del Norte (TESDA-ADN) last February 1, 2021.

Sitio Hinandayan in Barangay Camagong, Nasipit is considered a geographically-isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA) in Agusan del Norte and constantly being threatened by the presence of the Communist New People’s Army (NPA) Terrorist (CNT) for years/

The distribution of food packs and clothing for the children was conducted in connection with the implementation of the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) in the area. More than four hundred fifty-nine (459) residents of Sitio Hinandayan benefited from the said distribution activity.

The implementation of RCSP in Sitio Hinandayan is necessary due to its classification as GIDA and the presence of the CNT that further brings poverty and underdevelopment in the area.

Barangay Captain Rodolfo Bulasa of Camagong welcomed the implementation of RCSP in Sitio Hinandayan as he also expressed gratitude to the government for the delivery of services to his community.

“Sukad pa atong ni aging tuig wala nay kapuhasan ang mga proyekto ug hinabang sa among barangay hilabi na sa katawhan,” Bulasa said.

He also urged the residents in the area to continue their support for the programs and services of the government.

“Mao ako tamong hangyuon nga ipadayon nato ang pag suporta sa atong gobyerno ug ampingan nato ang mga ekwepo nga nagtrabaho sa atong kalsada aron dili maka duol ang mga walhong grupo nga musilot sa ila,” Bulasa said.

Nasipit town Mayor Enrico R. Corvera also assured the people in the community of the continuing implementation of development initiatives in the area.

“This is just a part of the plans and programs of our government and there will be lots of services that will be delivered in your Sitio in the upcoming days. What we ask from all of you is your cooperation especially in maintaining peace and unity in your area so that your government can easily implement its programs in your community. May you not let the CPP-NPA rule in your community again so that you can live peacefully and progressively,” Corvera said.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Julius Cesar C. Paulo, the commander of 23IB encouraged the residents of Sitio Hinandayan to help the government solve insurgency, considering that the place was once considered a guerrilla zone of the CNT.

He also pointed out that Sitio Hinandayan is still vulnerable to the influence of the CNTs despite the decision of the residents last year to cut their ties with the terrorist group.

“There were wide recruitment, countless atrocities and extortion activities that took place in Sitio Hinandayan before. Nightmares that continue to haunt the ordinary residents,” Paulo said.

He assured the residents of the continued support of the 23IB to all the efforts in bringing government programs and services to the people of the sitio.

“It is our pleasure to help the local populace by bringing basic services as we always wanted to build a strong relationship with the people whom we promised to serve and protect. We want you to remember that your army, together with the LGU and other line government agencies and stakeholders are your partners in starting a new beginning. We conducted this activity to show our appreciation to the populace for showing their cooperation and support to the implementation of our peace initiatives. May we continue to work in unity,” Paulo said.
