CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur-At least 200 individuals gathered at the Freedom Park in Legazpi City to condemn through an indignation rally, the recent brutal killings staged by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), Wednesday, January 20.

Among them were Barangay officials and residents of Banquerohan and Bariis of Legazpi City, military officials and personnel of 9th Civil Military Operations (9CMO) Battalion, 31st Infantry Battalion (31IB), officers and personnel of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5), representatives of various government agencies, religious sectors, academe, youth organizations, and other members of uniformed services.

Protesters crying for justice for all the victims of CTG’s gruesome crimes, brought with them placards denouncing the terrorist group’s anti-people and anti-development attacks.

”Ang iisa nating mithiin, matapos na ang higit kalahating siglong pagsisinungaling, pandarambong, panggagahasa at pagkitil sa buhay at pangarap ng ating mga kababayan. Itong mga kasapi ng teroristang grupo, ang isinagawang pananambang sa mga kasama nating kasundaluhan noong nakaraang January 17 sa Banquerohan, Legazpi City ay isang malinaw na pagladlad ng tunay nilang kulay,” PLTCOL. Rodelon Betita of Legazpi City Police Station said.

It can be recalled that last Sunday, four members of 31IB bound for a coordination meeting about a road project in Legazpi City were ambushed by communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) in Barangay Banquerohan, killing the three of them and wounding the other one.

On January 19, CTGs also harassed a community in Cabas-an, Aroroy, Masbate and mercilessly killed their Barangay Councilor and Tanod.

During the event, former rebels (FRs) also gave their testimonies and called on their former comrades to return to the folds of the law.

“Huwag po magpalinlang ang mga kabataan. Sa kabataan sila kumukuha ng lakas at puwersa sa pakikipaglaban nila. Sa mga natitira ko pang mga kasamahan, huwag po kayong matakot na magbalik-loob. Walang ibang solusyon kundi makiisa tayo sa ating gobyerno,” Ka Jessa said.

“Kami po ay nakikiisa sa indignation rally na ito para kondenahin ang karumal-dumal na pagpatay sa ating kasundaluhan, sa ating mga sibilyan at sa ating mga former rebels. Hindi po totoo ang sinasabi na ang surrenderees ay tinatakot at pinipilit ng gobyerno na sumuko. Buhay kaming patotoo na bukal sa aming loob ang pagsuko. Huwag po tayong matakot dahil ‘yon ang gusto nila upang magamit tayo laban sa gobyerno,” Ka Bal added.

MGEN HENRY A ROBINSON JR PA, Commander of Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) earlier condemned CTG’s terrorism and assured the Bicolanos of the government’s persistent efforts to wipe out communist insurgency in Bicol.

Proof of this was the successful hot pursuit operations yesterday in Masbate where one CNT was killed while two high powered firearms, anti-personnel mines,medical paraphernalia, terroristic propaganda materials and personal belongings were captured.

At the end of the rally, demonstrators burned CPP-NPA-NDF’s flags to show their complete abhorrence of their acts of evil while candle lighting and sincere prayers were offered for the souls of all the victims of the 5-decade armed struggle.
