IPIL, ZSP – A former Anakbayan member turned Communist NPA Terrorist surrendered to the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on November 22, 2020.

The former CNT member of the Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) was identified as alias “KINS”, 38 years old, from Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte surrendered along with his M14 rifle to Hon. Eleazar Carcallas, Mayor through the joint efforts of 53rd Infantry Battalion and Tigbao Municipal Police Station.

According to the Hon. Carcallas, “the surrender was a proof that the community now cooperates to achieve the peace they are longing for.”

He also added that, “the MTF-ELCAC will work hand-in-hand with other Government Agencies to assist the newly-surrendered rebel in terms of various programs and benefits.”

Alias KINS was first recruited as a member of Anakbayan then as a member of Kabataang Makabayan before entering the [Red] Armed Group on August 2010.

As per alias KINS’ revelation, there remains 5 members of NPA’s MRGU.


According to 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the surrender of Alias KINS is a tangible proof that the Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs) operating in its area of operatiosn is in the brink of collapse.

“From the surrender of alias KINS, we can see that the enemy’s will to fight is totally weakened, if not totally destroyed,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade stressed that all ongoing operations against the remnants of MRGU will continue.

“We will not stop the conduct of our Army operations until we achieve sustainable peace in Zamboanga Penisula,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas said.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio Commander, 1st Infantry Division stated that, “all government agencies through the local TF-ELCAC will continue to open its doors for the remaining members of the WMRPC who wish to return to their families especially not that the yuletide season is already fast approaching.”

The newly-surrendered CNT is now undergoing custodial debriefing at Camp Abelon, Pagadian City while his firearm is deposited for safekeeping.
