The National Democratic Front – Negros stongly slams US-Duterte regime’s traitorous act of appointing the butcher and murderer Debold Sinas as the new PNP chief.

“We are no longer surprised that the butcher Duterte will reward another loyal butcher with promotion. Duterte coddles power-hungry and bloodthirsty lapdogs as he continues to unleash terror against the people,” Ka Bayani Obrero NDF-Negros states.

The people of Negros will always remember Sinas as a gross human rights violator. During his stint as PNP Regional Director of Central Visayas, drug-related killings spiked as well as police brutality. He will be remembered as the man behind the Synchronized Enhanced Management of Police Operations (SEMPO) or Oplan Sauron 1 and 2 which claimed the lives of 21 Negros peasants and numerous victims of illegal arrests on fabricated charges. Police claimed they were serving warrants to alleged drug dealers and shot them when they resisted (the classic “nanlaban” explanation). However, when the victims’ families denied the police’s claims they switched to claiming that they were members and supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA). He also orchestrated Operation Branstark resulting to the series of killings of lawyer, educators, public officials, peasants and even a 1-year old baby which made Negros as the regime’s “killing fields”.

“Debold Sinas leaves a trail of destruction wherever he goes. The blood of the countless victims reeks on Sinas’ hands. Appointing him as new PNP Chief is adding salt to the injured families and kins of victims. The cries for justice and accountability will remain unanswered under the Duterte regime,” Ka Bayani Obrero added.

As Director of NCRPO, he made headlines as the mananita general who violated quarantine protocols. Instead of being persecuted, Sinas walked away scot-free despite the public’s outrage. Yet, he used his iron fist to quarantine violators making the lives of Metro Manila residents even harder. And following his modus operandi in Negros, Sinas engineered the raids of offices of progressive organizations in Metro Manila. Five activists were charged with trumped-up cases, including urban poor activist Reina Mae Nasino.

“Debold Sinas’ bloody track record is exactly why he got fascist Duterte’s nod of approval. The NDF – Negros stands with the Filipino people in denouncing this outrageous move of making Sinas as the new PNP chief. The culture of killings and impunity is sure to continue with severity with Sinas at the helm. Now more than ever, we must unite and collectively resist to end Duterte’s reign of terror,” ended Ka Bayani Obrero.
