IPIL, ZSP – Forty-six former rebels of Zamboanga del Norte received additional government aid from the Department of Agriculture – Region 9 at Barangay Misok, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte on August 27, 2020.
The activity was highlighted with a ceremonial turn-over of two (2) cattles, 30 native chickens, four native swine, 1,000 packs of Zinc Phospide, 100 packs vegetable seeds and 36 kilograms of corn seeds which were all received by alias Peewee, a former terrorist leader of the HQ KALAW of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.
Dr. Darwin Lloyd Sulay, Regional Livestock Program Focal Person who represented Department of Agriculture Regional Director, Rad Donn L. Cedeño, emphasized the commitment of the agency to uplift the living conditions of the former rebels.
Meanwhile, during his speech, Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade urged the remaining active Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) to return to the folds of law, while they still can.
“The government’s doors are always open for our lost brother and sisters who chose to remain in the lost cause of the armed struggle of the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTG),” Brig. Gen. Nicolas said.
“Rest assured that more government programs and activities will come as the Task Force- End Local Communist Armed Conflict as we perform our mandate in delivering the basic government services and projects needed by the people,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas added.
In addition, the 46 former rebels also received cash and rice assistance from Sindangan MTF- ELCAC chaired by Hon Rosendo S Labadlabad.
For his part, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan, the Assistant Division Commander, who represented Maj. Gen. Gene M Ponio, Commander of 1st Infantry Division, warmly welcomed the new surrenderees as they return to the maintsream society.
“The government was never your enemy, and now that you have returned to the folds of law, you can now clearly witness and see the sincerity of the government to support you become a better, peace-loving and productive individuals,” Brig. Gen. Gaerlan said.
“We encourage all of you to continously support the government in its quest for a just and lasting peace,” Brig. Gen. Gaerlan added.
