Navy personnel in frigate rites ordered to go on self-quarantine

All Philippine Navy (PN) personnel and guests present during the commissioning of the country's first missile-frigate BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) last week were ordered to go on self-quarantine after one of the Navy officers in the event tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

"We also advised guests and stakeholders who attended the event, to go on self-quarantine or undergo PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing, or both," Navy public affairs office chief, Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas said in a message to reporters Tuesday.

She added that PN chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo has been on self-quarantine since Saturday and was swabbed earlier Tuesday. He is now awaiting the result.

"Similarly, all the crew of FF-150 were already subjected to PCR testing while preparing for the ship's participation in RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) in Hawaii later this month. Those who will test positive of the Covid-19 virus will have to be put in a quarantine facility ashore, while the other crew members will continue to make preparations for the RIMPAC 2020 exercise. FF-150's departure for Hawaii is on July 29," Roxas said.

She added that the PN strictly complies with the health and safety protocols mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force-Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to stem the transmission of this disease.
