A policeman died when unidentified motorcycle-riding men shot him along the Narciso Highway in Barangay Ragayan, Marantao town, Lanao del Sur at past 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Col. Madzgani Mukaram, chief of the Lanao del Sur police, identified the victim as Staff Sgt. Alicman Sangcopan, 46, a member of the Kapai municipal police station who was detailed at the Marawi City police station.
Mukaram said Sangcopan was on a motorcycle and was on his way to work when attacked by two armed men, who were back riding on a motorcycle.
One of them shot him several times, hitting him on his head, causing his instant death.
His assailants immediately fled to an unknown direction.
An investigation to identify the suspects and the motive of the killing is ongoing, according to Mukaram.
