The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has facilities that could accommodate locally stranded individuals (LSIs) once safety protocols are observed.

"May naka-(prepare) naman tayong facilities anytime in accordance with existing protocols pa rin (We have prepared facilities for such eventualities anytime in accordance with existing protocols)," said AFP public affairs office chief, Navy Capt. Jonathan Zata, in a message to Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday.

Zata said protocols refer to the selection of LSIs and other matters such as whether they are allowed to go to their facilities or not.

"Selection who really are the LSIs. Sorting who are authorized to go where. As well as the mandatory health protocol to ensure that the LSI is (coronavirus disease 2019) Covid-19 free and where will the suspected and confirmed case be brought, etcetera," he added.

Zata said they are coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units regarding this matter.

Last week, the Philippine Army (PA) sent home 102 LSIs to their respective provinces who were earlier accommodated in their facilities.

The PA opened its Wellness Center, the Army General Hospital (AGH), and specific areas at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani to cater to the LSIs and has accommodated a total of 408 LSIs since June 13.
