Philippine Army (PA) commander, Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, lauded 262 individuals for having the courage to join the military and choosing to serve the country and its people.

Gapay made this remark as he presided over the graduation ceremonies of the Officer Preparatory Course (OPC) Class 71-2019 and Officer Candidate Course (OCC) Class 53-2020 at the headquarters of the Training and Doctrine Command in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac on Tuesday.

A total of 70 graduates from OPC and 192 graduates from OCC will be commissioned as second lieutenants and will soon be deployed to the different Army units nationwide.

The graduation of the new Army officers came amid the country's battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Recall when you signed up for the Army. That single step you made for this journey is now culminating and the succeeding step to your dream has begun. And no matter how it will end, the most important thing is that you mustered enough courage to enter the door of many possibilities,” Gapay said.

He also commended the new officers for their hard work in preparation for their duties.
