Sulu Province – Major General Corleto S. Vinluan Jr., AFP, Commander of Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division and Brigadier General Antonio G. Nafarrete, AFP, Commander, 1101st Infantry Brigade together with Lieutenant Colonel Carlyleo P. Nagac, Commanding Officer of 6th Special Forces Battalion proceeded to the seized Abu Sayaff Group lair after the encounter of 6th Special Forces Battalion troops on April 5, 2020.
The seizure was due to the recent clash of the operating troops against more or less thirty (30) fully armed men confirmed under ASG leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan at So Gabang, Brgy. Kaunayan, Patikul, Sulu on April 4, 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Nagac, the newly installed Commanding Officer of the 6th Special Forces Battalion on April 1, 2020 made his first operational accomplishment in the area. “We will continue our tireless effort towards mission accomplishment and a better Sulu in order for the people to live in peace and harmony,” he said.
Analysing the details of the ASG’s lair, Brigadier General Nafarrete confirmed that the confronted group had established temporary and alternative strategic position to recover their losses due to the community’s declined support. “Given the location and encampment defence design, ASG is desperately trying to recover areas that are essential to their terroristic acts,” he stated.
Major General Corleto S. Vinluan Jr., assured to continue the peace and order efforts despite the COVID-19 situation to provide continuous and unhampered services of local government units towards the community of Sulu Province. “Rest assured, your soldiers will do their task to provide security as well as to secure peace and order in line with the mandates of the AFP and as part Sulu Task Force COVID-19,’’ he said.
