ROXAS CITY, Capiz, March 12 (PIA) – Capiz police director Col. Julio Gustilo, Jr. renewed the call to the members of the New People’s Army Communist Terrorist Group to surrender as government assistance awaits them to start a new and peaceful life.

This was stressed by the province’s top cop as he presented before local tri-media practitioners alias Art who was then a rebel red fighter but surrendered and returned to the folds of law, March 6, at the Capiz Police Provincial Office in Camp Teodorico Apil, here.

“Capiz PPO will facilitate alias Art’s enrolment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) so he can start the soonest possible time a new and better life,” Gustilo said in a prepared statement before the mediamen.

The former rebel surrendered with a caliber .357 revolver without serial number and loaded with five live ammunitions to CPPO’s Provincial Intelligence Unit Officer Maj. Rowell Buccat, as a result of the intensified and comprehensive conduct of intelligence and information operation by the police operatives in coordination with the 61st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and the Barangay Intelligence Networks.

During the press briefing, alias Art said to the media that he surrendered because he could no longer bear the hardship, starvation, lack of security and hopelessness in the mountains.

Maj. Buccat said alias Art was recruited in 1992 and had become a red fighter. He was a member of NPA unit operating in several upland barangays of Mambusao, Jamindan, Sigma, Dumalag and Tapaz towns in the province.

The surrender took place as the government is implementing the whole – of – nation approach to end local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) in order to attain inclusive and sustainable peace and development. (JSC/AAL/PIA Capiz)
