CAMIGUIN, Feb. 26 (PIA)--To hinder the perceived influence of the communist rebels on the youth, personnel from Camiguin Provincial Mobile Force Platoon have recently brought their mobile library to 30 students of Li-ong Elementary School, Guinsiliban as part of their Alternative Learning System to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ALS-ELCAC) operation.
Through the partnership of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Department of Education (Deped), ALS-ELCAC aims to prevent children from being recruited by communist terror group (CTG) at an early age.
“Among purpose ani sa ALS-ELCAC is nga mapasuod namo or mapaayo namo ang relasyon sa mga estudyante ug sa pulis labi na katong pag naa'y pulis, puro ra panghinadlok bitaw sa mga maestra ug mga ginikanan. Mao na among plano nga walaon sa ALS-ELCAC operation para atleast makita nila nga dili man diay daotan ang ahensiya sa pulis, naa diay japoy maayo,” PMFP Platoon Leader PMaj Dennis de los Santos said.
(The purpose of the ALS-ELCAC is to enhance or strengthen the relationship between the students and the police to engender a positive attitude towards police officers who the teachers and parents alike use to inject fear among kids. This is our plan to eradicate that kind of fear through the ALS-ELCAC operation so that they can see the police agency is not bad at all.)
De los Santos added that children seemed happy and excited because they were engaged in different activities. The children even actively participated where they kept raising their hands to share some ideas and answer questions.
“Dako kaayo ang epekto ani nga kalipay kay kanang pag adto lang namo sa eskwelahan, sige lang sila ug syagita. (This creates a positive effect on the children, as we saw happy faces in school)," the platoon leader said.
The mobile library activity started last year but was only intensified in January 2020 due to lack of resources like books nd other reading materials. De Los Santos said the books came from the donations from other communities.
He is asking for more donations on educational materials such as projectors, microphones, and the like which could be of big help to accommodate more children in the province. (Marc Ian A. Salem/PIA10)
