CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur-As a head start in their journey to a more peaceful life, two former rebels who recently surrendered to the government were given financial aid last Friday, February 28.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the provincial government of Camarines Sur led the awarding which was held at the Capitol Convention Center in Pili. Beneficiaries of cash assistance were alias Mimoy, former finance officer of Norben Gruta Command and alias Randy, commanding officer of Militiang Bayan.

Both of them received a livelihood assistance amounting to P50,000 and an immediate assistance amounting to P15,000 while Randy, who surrendered a firearm received an additional P60,000 firearm remuneration under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) ensures that formel rebels can avail a holistic package of benefits such as livelihood, medical, education, housing and even legal assistance.

According to Francia Abaldonado, Local Government Operations Officer of DILG-Camarines Sur, E-CLIP aims to assist the surrendering rebels while they undergo the process of reintegration in the mainstream society.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Emerson Sumilang, Battalion Commander of 9th Infantry Battalion (9IB) urged the remaining members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) to surrender as well because President Rodrigo Duterte and the government are serious to help them to start anew.

Furthermore, Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) under MGEN FERNANDO T TRINIDAD AFP believes that the snowballing number of surrenderers is a clear manifestation of how operative and effective the intensified campaign against insurgency.

Nevertheless, JTFB once again called on the Bicolanos to unite and work hand in hand with the government to put an end to the 50-year old insurgency problem in the country and attain a peaceful and sustainable developments in the communities.
