Troops of the Joint Task Force Sulu (JTF) under the Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) once again join hand-in-hand with its stakeholders in a relief operation conducted for the fire victims in Jolo, Sulu following a series of assistance which started on February 6, 2020 up to this day. Reportedly, a fire incident transpired on February 3, 2020 which critically damaged 1,377 houses in the areas of barangays takut-Takut, Chinese Pie, and Tulay. Also, roughly 2,739 Tausug families lost their homes and livelihood.

Among the stakeholders who took part in donating additional relief goods were SoPhil Deep Sea Fishing Association Incorporated, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Western Mindanao Command and Darul Ifta’.

The relief packs included rice, assorted canned goods, noodles, dried fishes, cooking utensils, personal hygiene kits and water containers which supported the immediate needs the victims. These were distributed simultaneously in designated evacuation centers namely Jolo Youth Center, Senator Santanina Rasul Complex, Jolo Municipal Tennis Covered Court and in barangays Chinese Pier, Takut-takut and Tulay in coordination with the Local Government Office of Jolo under the leadership of Mayor Kherkhar S. Tan on February 22, 2020.

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go visited the fire victims on February 13, 2020 to check their morale and assessed their needs which need further attention. With this, the JTF is always enthusiastic in reinforcing the efforts of the local government units and concerned stakeholders in providing manpower, security and transportation in the swift delivery of goods.
