CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Dec. 29 – More than 3,000 peace-loving individuals coming from various sectors of the society from Northern Mindanao and Caraga showed their strong support during the simultaneous indignation rally against the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army terrorist (CNTs) during the 51st anniversary of CPP on Thursday, December 26.

The indignation rally was conducted simultaneously in eight cities and 14 municipalities namely: Cagayan de Oro City, Malaybalay City and Gingoog City in Northern Mindanao and Butuan City, Cabadbaran City, Buenavista, Nasipit, RTR, Magallanes and Kicharao municipalities of Agusan del Norte, Surigao City, Gigaquit, Claver, Tubod and Malimono municipalities of Surigao del Norte, Tandag City, Bislig City and Lianga of Surigao del Sur and Bayugan City, Sibagat, Talacogon, and San Luis municipalities of Agusan del Sur in Caraga region.

Different speakers composed of Local Chief Executives, former rebels, Indigenous People’s leaders and Government Agencies had condemned the five decades of deceptions, extortions, killings, violence against women and children, destruction of properties, recruitment of minors and continues violations on human rights and international humanitarian law.

Alyas Monic, 45yrs old, former NPA political instructor from Sitio Lantad, Brgy Kibanban, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental shared her tragic experience during the rally. “I was blinded by the wrong ideology for 20yrs, I’ve seen human rights abuses, suffering, and death of ordinary people because of the NPA. Tama na ang kasinungalingan at pagpapahirap sa mamamayan. Gagawin ko ang lahat para makabawi at makatulong sa bayan,” Monic said.

Meanwhile, MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division said, “The simultaneous indignation rally shows that people were already fed-up of all the atrocities committed by the CNTs. They are all longing for peace and development, socio-economic progress and an insurgency-free community."

"With this overwhelming support from the masses and the utmost dedication and effort of Regional and Provincial ELCAC, we can attain insurgency-free communities and sustainable development in Regions 10 and Caraga,” Gacal added. (4ID, PA)
