From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 13, 2019): Brgy chief hopeful ELCAC will end insurgency
SIATON, Negros Oriental, Nov. 6 (PIA) -- “Kini nga kalihukan sa ELCAC dako kaayo ikatabang sa among barangay basta tinud-on lang ni sa gobyerno ang mga proyekto kay among barangay uhaw sa mga proyekto (The ELCAC is a big help to our barangay so long as the government will really do the projects because our barangay really need these projects)," said Renato Morato, punong barangay of Brgy. Tayak, Siaton during the Dagyawan sa Barangay and Gobyerno Serbisyo Caravan held in the village recently. Punong Barangay Renato Morato of Brgy. Tayak, Siaton, Negros Oriental. (PIA Negros Oriental)
Morato is seeking the implementation of the following priority projects urgently needed by their barangay to address insurgency: concrete roads, potable water, and electricity.
Brgy. Tayak is among the 16 barangays in Negros Oriental identified to be influenced by communists.
Morato said the peace and order situation in the area is not stable yet as there are still armed men going in and out of the barangay.
“Personally, I have not seen one but there were reports before that there were a lot of skirmishes or killing that involved people from the left," he said.
With the presence of the Philippine Army, the barangay has not reported any incidents so far.
But once the army brigade is gone, Morato fears that the rebels will appear again.
“Nevertheless, we should work hard in order for our children and family to live. We urge the people in the barangay to refrain from doing something that does not agree with the law because instead of the barangay prospering, we will become poorer,” appealed Morato.
In the same activity, Brigade Commander of 302nd Infantry Battalion Col. Noel Baluyan said: “So for this town, we told our partners that we will really try our best to eliminate the insurgency problem in this town. We are working hard that hopefully, Negros Oriental will be insurgency-free because this is one of the provinces in Central Visayas that has a problem with insurgency.”
However, Baluyan warned the young people and parents to avoid falling for the possible recruitment of the New People’s Army (NPA) especially in schools. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
