COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 6 Nov) – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is the island’s top region in terms of good governance, with 28 of its local government units given the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The winners were given their awards by the DILG during ceremonies at the Manila Hotel Tuesday.

Of the country’s 17 regions, BARMM is fifth overall. Only three in Mindanao made it to the top 10: Region X is sixth with 23 SGLGs, and Region XIII (Caraga) is eighth with 19 awards.

Region I garnered the most awards at 65, followed by Region III at 63, Region II at 40 and Region IV-A at 33.

“Today was a good harvest for the Bangsamoro Government in the area of good local governance in the region. Twenty-eight LGUs were conferred at today’s ceremony with the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance,” said BARMM Interior and Local Government Minister Naguib Sinarimbo in a Facebook post Tuesday.

He said this year’s SGLG awards were an improvement from last year’s 23.

Provincial SGLG awardees in BARMM were Basilan and Maguindanao. In the city category, Lamitan in Basilan was the sole awardee in the region.

Municipal level winners were Maluso and Sumisip in Basilan; Balabagan, Buadiposo Buntong, Calanugas, Kapatagan, Piagapo, and Taraka in Lanao del Sur; Barira, Buldon, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Datu Paglas, Datu Piang, Guindulungan, Kabuntalan, Matanog, Paglat, Shariff Aguak, South Upi, Sultan Kudarat, Sultan sa Barongis, and Upi in Maguindanao; Talipao in Sulu; and Sibutu and Simunul in Tawi-Tawi.

Sinarimbo thanked his team for their efforts during the audit and validation and the extra work exerted by the LGUs to achieve this feat.

The SGLG Awards is looking at excellence and continuous improvement in financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection, and tourism culture and the arts.

In Maguindanao, Governor Bai Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu has met the mayors of the winning municipalities and vowed to provide more incentives as her way of thanking them for the effort to uplift governance in their respective municipalities.
